The Interview Process

It takes a bit to get on here. We will go through a few interviews. Ask you to spend a little time hanging out. Have lunch with some of our Team. If you’re applying for a stylist position we’ll want to see your work.

The Gentlemen’s Cut Standard

This is what makes us a successful, it spells out our expectations and what its like to work for the GC. We encourage you to read it before you submit an application. We’re not for everybody and we may not be right for you. And if not that’s ok, we wish you only the best.

The training phase can be very quick or very lengthy depending on your level of expertise, on your willingness to work hard and learn, and on your willingness to integrate into our culture.

Introduction

Thank you for beginning your career with our company. We welcome you to our corporate community. Our community is committed to our culture and a big part of that commitment is about maintaining Gentlemen’s Cut standards. This is why we like to tell people a few things right up front. We invite you to read the following list of non-negotiables and take a few moments to really take it in. These are the things that will most likely never change about Gentlemen’s Cut culture and or business atmosphere. And we want you to feel really sure you’re interested in being a part of it early on in your career with us.

Mission statement

We create an environment where men can empower themselves by looking good and living great.

All technical staff are required to go through a skill certification program and to work for a period of time as an apprentice or associate. You may know all about doing haircuts, but you can only learn about our culture by doing some time on the front lines. The training phase can be very quick or very lengthy depending on your level of expertise, on your willingness to work hard and learn and on your willingness to integrate into our culture. No worries – we talk a lot about this as we go along. Education does not stop when the skill certification program stops. And education is not limited to the technical staff. We want all of our community to grow their minds, which is why a commitment to continued learning is part of our culture. Seems kind of silly to have to say it, but guests like to have services on nights and weekends! So, you guessed it, you have to work some nights and at least one day of the weekend.

Guest care, or customer service, is what our mission statement is talking about at the top of this page. Every one, at every level of our company is totally responsible for this. “It’s not my job” can never cross your lips. Pleasing our guests is our number one priority. Oh, and sometimes this means helping housekeeping (clean a mirror, sweep a floor type stuff) and
sometimes it means opening a door, serving a cup of coffee, shaking a hand and always doing it all with a SMILE.
All of us work really hard to accomplish our goals and positions. We are a committed group and are only interested in working with like-minded people. So, you guessed it again, all employees must be committed professionals and team players.

There is so much to know about our company, but for now here are a few key things:

  1. We are a locally owned business
  2. We have an open door policy where issues and new ideas can be discussed directly with the owners.
  3. We have monthly one-on-one meetings, and monthly salon gatherings, which require your attendance.
  4. We have an Appearance Standard, and if you are not in it your coworkers will call you on it because they all helped develop it. Wardrobe, hair and make-up must be fashionable!
  5. You must be on time. (15 min. prior to start of shift) Completely self explanatory.
  6. Once your eligible, Gentlemen’s Cut offers tons of benefits including:Vacation/Sick Pay, Product and service discounts, In Salon Training, and looking to add more as business grows

All potential employees must provide required US government
documentation proving employment eligibility. Also, all technical
applicants must have a license or work permit prior to working directly with guests.

Responsibility, by doing things you promise to do and following-up with commitments, is a must. And the flip side is accountability; everybody is answerable for their actions. Period. In other words, we don’t play the blame game. Mistakes are not fatal, but a lack of a sense of responsibility or accountability just won’t fly. No other way to say this one: YOU MUST BE NICE. Disrespectful language, gossipy tongues, cruel behavior or plain old meanies will not be
accepted. Smiles and a positive attitude are required. Our mission
statement is not only about our guests, it is about each other. We serve our guests, but we also serve each other and this takes BEING NICE!
